Near South Side Real Estate

The Near South Side is a community area in Chicago, just south of the downtown Loop area. It stretches from Roosevelt down to 26th Street, and the Chicago River to Lake Michigan. In the 1960s, middle class housing was built in the area, which was mostly made up of railroad tracks and interchanges up until that time. The Near South Side experienced a housing boom in the 1990s that continues to this day, making it one of the most vibrant and rapidly changing neighborhoods in Chicago.

Some of the most recognizable sites in Chicago are part of the Near South Side. Soldier Field, home of the Chicago Bears Football Team, is situated between Lake Shore Drive and Lake Michigan. McCormick Place, Chicago’s main convention center, as well as the Museum Campus (Adler Planetarium, Shedd Aquarium, and the Field Museum) draw many tourists and locals alike.

Great housing options exist in the Near South Side. Many older factories and warehouses have been replaced or converted into beautiful loft condominiums with a trendy urban feel. Many high-rise condo and apartment towers have been built in the last few years, with sweeping views of the lake and downtown, and luxurious amenities. Both buyers and renters will find plenty to choose from in the Near South Side.

The Near South Side is well connected into Chicago’s transportation network. The CTA has three lines running through the area: the Red Line, Orange Line, and Green Line all have stops at the Roosevelt Station. Lake Shore Drive is easily accessible, as are the major expressways of the city. Indeed, all parts of Chicago are easy to get to from the Near South Side.
